One Day Vacation Conversation

Hi Everyone - Today is the day that we get serious about having fun. Expanding on the articles in The Herald, I will be posting ideas for One Day Vacations in the Puget Sound area along with a range of ideas about how to incorporate fun into your daily life.

Please join in by sharing your ideas for everyday fun and for fieldtrips that you recommend. I am building the 10 Principles of Everyday Fun (see below). I've posted seven as food for thought. What would you add to this list?

I can't wait to hear your thoughts!

I am thinking about adding Kurt Vonnegut's quote to the 10 Principlesof Everyday Fun: "Life is for farting around. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise."

Sally,

Whoa! I REALLY like your One Day Vacation idea! As an overworked self-employed father of 5 children, I am continually asking my wife: "Hey, let's go away overnight. I need a break!" In fact, I have dreamt of getting away with my wife, overnight, each month. Wouldn't that be absolutely the best?!

I'll be watching your blogspot for ideas!

Thanks for the great request, Jerry! I'll put together a One Day Vacation of Longer Duration section that will give you some weekend getaway ideas. Stay tuned....

Ice Cream Cruise on Lake Union? FREE wine and cheese tastings after 9 pm. I've been inspired to Go. Do. Be. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE This blog site!
Here's a fun One Day Vacation idea that my husband & boys planned for me one Mother's Day. Take the ferry over to Anderson Island. Have brunch at The Riviera Restaurant right on the lake. Take a hike on the trails down to The Sound to skip some rocks, explore and of course eat some snacks on the beach. Golf 9 holes & if that goes well, golf another 9! Don't forget your camera... You are guaranteed to see families of deer as you tour the Island. It's a 30 minute drive that takes you "far from home".

Hi Karrie - Anderson Island is an excellent suggestion. I didn't even know there were restaurants over there! I am packing my bag and making plans to catch the ferry now. Thanks! Sally

Hey, Sal--
Don't forget down your way are Northwest Trek and Pioneer Farm. Or are locals tired of those?

Hi Kay - It's a great idea to pair NW Trek with Pioneer Farm. We'll give it a whirl and report back here. Is NW Trek in a rainforest? Every time I go there it is pouring and the animals are in hiding. Anyone have any hints on how to plan an optimum trip there?
